Chiang Kai-Shek double shaka

Back in 2007 I travelled to Taiwan to surf with a couple of friends.  One day while touring the mountains along the SE coast, we stumbled on a road-side park with a head statue.  It was the only thing there.  A concrete profile of some persons head sitting on a rock.  With no one around for miles, we pulled over and had a look.  Who is this guy that gets a head statue and one that is literally in the middle of nowhere?  Anyone that knows anything about Chinese history knows who this is, but we didn't.   Chiang Kai-Shek, a former Chinese political leader that led the Chinese Republic during WWII.  He was eventually forced from power by Chinese communists.  After 1950, he served as president of the Republic of China on Taiwan.  A lot of interesting reading on this guy.  We read what our lonely planet told us about him and it only seemed fitting to get a photo of him throwing double shakas.  We have a suspicion he surfed Taiwan for years and kept the secret of good waves under wrap.   Here's to you, Chiang Kai-Shek!  Cheers!
